The night can be a perfect time to ambush trout that are used to lots of day time pressure. It’s also a great time to intercept big, cannibalistic trout on their pitch black prowl. Large streamers on 1x are a great starting point, but this evening the fish wanted their midnight snacks to be dead drifted bugs. Glow in the dark thingamabobbers made the presentation and detection possible.
Night Fishing Necessities:
-Headlamp
-Very warm clothes (more on this to come)
-Keen knowledge of the water to be fished (do some recon on where the fish hang out and what the under water topography looks like during the day time)
- Controlled insanity

Where were you fishing @?
We sorely need names attached to these offerings. Who IS that? Pictures are never enough.
George-
I was fishing a very popular tailwater that I chose not to name. I watched droves of anglers cast to the same fish all afternoon while I was doing my recon… I didn’t see a single hookup.
The underlying point is that these methods can be applied to any river, at any time with often surprising results.
Gordon – I’ll be sure to attach a sig when I post fishing reports in the future.
Hi There,
There was no reason to mention the need for controlled insanity.
All anglers have it.
A lot of us by the truckload ……..
Best Regards

Just feeling out my audience a little Robbie. Thanks for chiming in. I suppose uncontrolled insanity would be spin fishing.
